Women, children, crafts and the love of the Lord…..

June McCleneghen blesses the RTCANY/ Saratoga backstretch and Pine Grove Christian Camp racetrack families with her talent, time and energy and smiles and cherished keepsakes are the result!

Stop by the Recreation Hall or surrounding buildings at Saratoga Racecourse, say from chilly, damp, early April, to equally chilly damp almost November and you will almost certainly catch a glimpse of a woman in love.
June McClenegh, who heads up the RTCANY’s Saratoga program, which is a division of the parent chaplaincy, is in love with Jesus and she can’t contain herself! She loves the Lord so much she and her equally so enamored husband and partner in ministry, Frank, just can’t get enough of Him.
In a swirl of activity any given day, June and her many volunteers are likely to be doing a myriad of tasks involving the ministering to backstretch workers and families’ physical, emotional and spiritual needs. June embodies the RTCA commitment as such and one of her joys in embracing this credo is in offering a craft night for women on Wednesday evenings next to the Rec. Hall. Not only does she hold the class, she writes the grant that affords the supplies to carry it out!

Above, talented volunteer Paula Schultz helps create original greeting cards that beg to be framed and hung on a wall. Below RTCA Executive Committee member Arnie Frazee prepares Women’s Ministry Representative Chaplain Lee Alphen’s secret recipe Fluffernutter roll-ups.

Nothing makes crafts more challenging than some marsh mellow spread on your fingers!
Be it wreaths to give life and make pretty the entries to where these ladies live, beaded jewelry or adorned boxes to keep it in, or perhaps tie died tank tops that drew a full house of 20 participants, every week June and her wonderful assistants carefully plan and then present the women with a beautiful project that will bless them for time to come. I personally, while visiting Payson Park Training Center in south Florida saw one of the wreaths that were made here, carried a thousand plus miles, adorning the entry of a dorm room there. These are treasures made to keep and bless June’s beloved flock when they leave and head away; north, south, east or west. Every time that keepsake is worn, viewed, toted around, you name it, the one who made it will remember someone loved them uniquely and specially enough to design a way to imprint that love upon their hearts forever. Gee, does that sound like someone we know?
June McCleneghen is a woman in love, and she’s showing it by spreading that love, as Christ would have her, to those who are so needing to know they are special, precious and unique in His heart. Thank you June for being His love in action, and for the tireless work you do in His name!

Nature and kids, beautiful together!

by Amy Bondon

Now that we are full capacity at the Pine Grove Christian Camp, here in sunny or not so sunny Saratoga, the atmosphere is always full of brilliance despite some more or less constant dampness in the weather. Nothing dampens the spirits here with all that is planned and all the wonderful improvements that have been made for the families to enjoy!

Below, opening day newbies to daycare at the camp, teen helper Jessika in command, answers a chorus of " why did my Mommy leave me here?" first day inquiries, ( amidst smiles all the while). I tried to help with my great talent in dealing with little kids, telling them to look for a moose, which was NOT a lie, there was one at track last month..so got "when are we going to see a moose?" for about 30 seconds then back to the resounding, "why did my Mommy leave me?".

No doubt they will all be fully immersed in fun stuff here, and those questions will be only a memory shortly. We have a wonderful local artist, Daniele Ippoliti, coming to do art courses with the kids and families starting Saturday the 8th, at 11 AM. She incorporates teaching excellent moral character to the kids and concept of sustainability with a closing lesson of auctioning off the project they create to a charity of their choice. It is an immense blessing to have her so generously and selflessly come offer her time, talent and passion to our family here at Pine Grove.

Please check out here website at; http://www.characterofnature.com/ to see the beautiful work she does and read of her unique skills and lessons taught.

Life is good at Pine Grove Christian Camp! Come join us for some great art and see the kids in action, Amy

Dental Bus Serves 113 at Future Ocala Farm Ministry Home

by Danette Philpott of Fellowship Baptist Church, Ocala FL
Two men with a love for Jesus and passion for helping those in need brought a profound service to many area farm workers. Pastor John Outlaw of Fellowship Baptist Church and Chaplain Bob Miller of Ocala Farm Ministry teamed to together host a traveling Dental bus to offer services to those in need. May 24-29, the Florida Baptist Mobile Dental Care Unit chalked its wheels at the future site of the Ocala Farm Ministry, Robert Scanlon Community Center. Area churches heeded the call and several volunteers from Fellowship Baptist Church, Hope Church, Oakcrest Baptist Church and Peniel Baptist Church brought food, translated paper work, assisted with patient sign in and ministering the Gospel.
Betty Jones of Fellowship took the reins of organization and coordinated the efforts. She has spent the last three months contacting volunteers, dentists, bilingual assistants, and patients. “I could not have done this without the assistance of many. It has been a true blessing to service to so many”.
The short time period was due to a cancellation, the bus would not have been able to be here until July 2010. God’s hand at work with a cancellation pushed the efforts into high gear.
Patients came in droves; walking, riding bikes in the stormy weather, brutal heat and some just to be on a waiting list. Every patient was able seen or were referred for services. One man rode his bike in the rain to have three teeth pulled and smiled as he rode his bike home. Final numbers speak for themselves; one hundred thirteen patients served with over $25,000 in donated services, five hundred fifty volunteer hours and twenty-three professions of faith. The couple who manage the clinic,Tom and Marsha Moylan, who travel with the unit full time, were astounded by the efficiency of volunteers and the numbers of patients served. “This has been a record breaking event, extremely organized and efficient, the bar has been raised.”

What a true testament; a church does not have to have walls to serve, just a heart for the people of God.

What's cooking at Evangeline Downs?

Chaplain Lynn Bartram at Evangeline Downs is running some exciting cooking and sewing classes. Bonnie Eads, Jockey Jason Eads grandmother, teaches the sewing to Sheyla, Daniel, Beronica, and Barbara.

Recently Marta and Beronica made chicken enchiladas, rice, salsa sauce and coleslaw. It was a great Honduran meal. Please pray that more women will come to the classes and that God will provide some good sewing machines.
